Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga is the rare mobile RPG that respects your time. Combat is real-time but pauses cleanly when you open the skill wheel, so you're never fighting the interface. The party of four each play differently, and swapping the active hero mid-fight became my favorite habit.

The writing surprised us. Side characters have actual arcs, and the main quest doesn't drown you in menus before it lets you fight. Progression is generous without feeling automatic — you still choose where your points go.

It does ask for a decent chunk of storage and the later dungeons get long, so it's more of a couch game than a bus-stop game. But as a phone RPG it's one of the more complete ones we've played this year.
